5 Reasons to see a Chiropractor

5 Reasons to see a Chiropractor

1. Chiropractic spinal adjustments are safe and effective.

It reduces pain, decreases medication, rapidly advances physical therapy, and requires very few passive forms of treatment, such as bed rest.

In fact, after an extensive study of all currently available care for low back problems, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research—a federal government research organization—recommended that low back pain sufferers choose the most conservative care first. And it recommended spinal manipulation as the only safe and effective, drugless form of initial professional treatment for acute low back problems in adults.  Also, A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck (90%-95% of headaches originate in the neck), and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

 3. Patients are highly satisfied

A study published in “Consumer Report, May 2009”, which surveyed more than 14,000 consumers, was conducted by the Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center. The report states that, “88% of those who tried chiropractic manipulation said it helped a lot, and 59 percent were ‘completely’ or ‘very’ satisfied with their chiropractor.”

Of the 23% of the adult population who have ever visited a chiropractor, overall rates of satisfaction are once again found to be quite high (83% satisfied or better) and the number dissatisfied is quite low (less than 10% dissatisfied or very dissatisfied). This is remarkable given the fact that much of the financial burden of the care is borne by patients, and the preponderance of care is for difficult chronic problems of back and neck pain (from the Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics).“ Chiropractic patients were found to be more satisfied with their back care providers after four weeks of treatment than were medical patients. Results from observational studies suggested that back pain patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care than with medical care. Additionally, studies conclude that patients are more satisfied with chiropractic care than they were with physical therapy after six weeks” (American Journal of Public Health, 2002).

 4. It’s safe

For cervical (neck) manipulation, the estimated risk for serious complications is about 6 per 10 million manipulations. For lumbar (low back) manipulation the estimate is 1 serious complication per 100 million manipulations.  The risk from manipulation is low and compares favorably to other forms of therapy for the same conditions (i.e., There are 15.6 serious complications per 1000 cervical spine surgeries and 3.2 serious complications per 1000 subjects for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Information from the RAND Institute.

 5. No drugs, No surgery

No cutting, no popping pills.  Who wants to take those pills anyways?

Chiropractic helps improve the body’s natural healing process.
